Career Profile – Folasade Adepoju

Folasade Adepoju is a Nigerian librarian and advocate for literacy, cultural and environmental sustainability. She currently serves as Head of Branch, Borno State in the Public Services Department, at the National Library of Nigeria, where she promotes literacy and equitable access to information nationwide.

As Chairperson of the Nigerian Library Association (FCT Chapter), she provides visionary leadership and mentorship to library and information science professionals.

Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Nigerian Library Association’s Best Librarian on Advocacy and Promotion of Library Services (2018).

She also received the Climate Change Clip Contest Award (2019) from the African Library & Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) for her pioneering work of integrating climate literacy into library practice and championing environmentally sustainable initiatives.

In 2022, Adepoju was honoured with the Step-Up Nigeria Parents Anti-Corruption Award.

In 2025, Adepoju was recognised for her accomplishments in advancing digital preservation education and advocacy by the National Digital Stewardship Alliance.

In 2026, Adepoju was honoured with the Women in Leadership award as the Outstanding Woman in Digital Education and Inclusion by the United Nations Association-Nigeria.

She is also the author of A Monster with a Name and Other Stories, a children’s book that encourages climate consciousness among young readers. Through her work, she continues to position libraries as agents of literacy, transparency, and sustainable development in Nigeria and across Africa.
